Rating: Axiom i3 BC is a winner!
Reviewer: Michael H.
I rarely give 5 stars to a product, at least until Ive put it through its paces. But this BC is the best Ive used in 10+ years of diving. Ive had countless rentals and owned 2 BCs (one heavy, cold water, and one light for travel). First, the fit is really good. I was able to go to Scuba.coms shop and try it on first. It seems bulky at the weight pouches at firs, but once youre suited up and especially in the water, the BC doesnt get in the way at all. Comfortable on the back and shoulders. The weight pouches are easy to load, clip in and unclip. The tank strap takes a bit getting used to, but once its set to a tank, it is easy to get on and off and very secure. The small strap that goes around the yoke is very helpful. The pouches are well placed, roomy (you can fit a lot of misc. gear in there) and helpful. Easy to stow your dive computer and your backup octo (they both can be tucked in and retracted out when needed/used by using the slots in the weight pouch areas). The big deal is the i3 inflator/deflator. It doesnt take much to get used to, and once you do it is a whole new diving world. Inflation is easy, though Ive had other BCs that inflate faster. Air dumping is awesome. No more rolling around to get the air out or reaching for a hard to grab dump valve. One push/hold on the valve and you can let out a little or all of the BCs air in no time. I dove in cold water with strong currents and warm water with little movement, and gaining/keeping neutral buoyancy was a breeze. All in all, I was very impressed at the comfort, versatility (local cold water diving, warm water, travelling) and performance with this BC.

Rating: axiom i3

this is a great bcd. the toggle switch that operates the dump valves is the best system i have usedair in when you want it, out when you dont. no reaching for kidney dumps or holding a hose in the air. its one less thing to think about. i also thought the integrated weight system worked well. its way better than a weight beltmuch more balanced. this is an expensive bcd but well worth it.

Im taking a class in the pool. Will the chlorine ruin and/or discolor the material?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello James, the few dives you do in a pool will not hurt your BC. Just make sure you rinse all of your gear in fresh water after your pool dive.

  • Paul:

Interested in the Aqua Lung Axiom i3. However, Im slightly between size. Waist and Height are ML, but weith is about 5 pounds above upper threshold. Which size is best?? Also, do you have the ML and L in stock for immediate shipping.

I really like the features of this BC...but does it allow you to orally inflate the BC if necessary?

That is a safety feature in all BCDs.

  • Mark:

My wife and are are considering new BCs. We are looking at the Aqua Lung SeaQuest Axiom i3 BC size large and the Aqua Lung Pearl i3 size small... What are the weights of these BCDs?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Mark, both BCD's are under 9 lbs.

  • Raul:

Im about a 32" waist, and measure in at around 62 in height. I cant pick out my size from the sizing chart. Which would you recommend?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

When selecting a bcd from the manufacturers sizing chart the waist size will always be the most important dimension. After that height is secondary and usually nothing to be concerned about unless you are a great deal outside the range (12" or more outside) You'd be a size small in this item.

Hello David, since the power inflator is a built-in unit you can not use a inline octo with this BCD. You would need to go with a stand alone Octo.

  • Angie:

I know the womans version is the Soul i3, however, if I was a size M/L in the Soul, what would I be in the Axiom? Thank you.

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Angie, going by the Axiom i3 if you are under 5''10" than you would be a size Medium. If you are over 5''10" than you would stay in the size Medium/Large.

  • Andrew:

Hi, I have been using a Mares Dragon BCD but find that at the surface I am struggling to keep my face out of the water and am continually rolling around and very unstable. Which BCD would you recommend for me to give me good surface stability, cost is not and issue. I have been told that Sherwood Avid is probably the best as it is not just back inflation. Recommendations please. Many Thanks

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The Sherwood Avis is on of the best jacket style bcd''s on the market. Any Jacket Style BCD will do this for you. But, as a Course Director and since you do have an extremely nice bcd already, I do need to add this: Remember from your class that proper buoyancy at the surface is chin to eye level at the surface. This in mind, your face is already in the water and the bcd cannot push your face into the water. What happens here is divers will try to emulate the really bad habits their instructor displays on the surface and inflate their bcd until they are neck to shoulder high out of the water. They do this to speak to the class on the surface but very few of them actually explain why it''s wrong and the proper way to maintain surface buoyancy. The Dragon is a Jacket/Hybrid bcd as well. It is not going to offer a great deal different stability at the surface than the Avid. One thing that makes me wonder, besides the fact that it sounds overinflated at the surface is that it sounds like there might be a fit issue on the bcd you currently are using.

  • james:

I am 5 10" 170lbs what size do you recommend waist is 34" How do the sizes run ? I also just want to confirm this is a jacket style well maybe almost a hybrid style. What is the model for this in a womans version.

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello James, yes this is a jacket style BCD and going by your Height and Waist the size I would suggest for you is the size Medium

  • JAMES:

What is the female version of this BCD ? I am a new diver and plan to dive both local waters and tropical waters will this BCD be appropriate for both conditions ?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

This bcd, as well as it''s female counterpart the Soul i3 Women''s BC are suitable for temperate or warm water conditions alike.

  • Mike:

I watched the video overview, but do not see how this is orally inflated. Please explain. Thanks

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Mike, on the left side shoulder there is a flex tube you can use to oral inflate the BCD.

  • Val:

does the aqua lung i3 BC come with the low pressure hose and quick disconnect ? Thanks Val

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Val, yes the power inflator for this BC does come with it when you buy it.

The Axiom i3 is our most comfortable and easy-to-use BC yet. It is a feature-rich, ADV style, wrap-around jacket that incorporates the innovative i3 inflation/deflation system (patented). The integrated Wrapture™ harness system (pat. pend.) allows you to stand up straight in total comfort while the cylinder remains perfectly vertical and pulled in close. Diving has never been this comfortable.

The Axiom i3 is a feature-rich, jacket style BC that incorporates Aqua Lung’s patented i3 inflation / deflation system. Its amazing comfort and stability come from the integrated Wrapture™ Harness System. The Axiom is made from durable, fade-resistant materials and comes in a black/navy blue/gray color combination. Integrated weights are held securely in place with SureLock II mechanical weight system and the cylinder is secured with the GripLock™ tank band.

The GripLock™ tank band and buckle system makes its debut on the Axiom i3. This strong, secure system makes attachment to a cylinder easier than ever before. Gone are the days of complicated web weaving and you don't have to worry about pinching your fingers with the innovative finger saver feature (pat. pend.)

Wrapture Harness System (pat. pend.) – Using patented swivel shoulder buckles and a proprietary, ultra-thin back plate, the Wrapture provides unsurpassed comfort and stability. Wrapture prevents the BC from “riding-up” on the surface. Out of the water, the Wrapture keeps the cylinder close to your center of gravity and transfers the weight to your hips. The result is the ability to stand up straight with a cylinder that is perfectly vertical

i3 Control System (patented) – provides easy, one-touch control for inflation and deflation. Eliminates the traditional inflator that dangles at the end of a corrugated hose. i3 is simple and intuitive - just lift up on the lever to inflate and push down on the same lever to dump air. What’s more, when you push the lever down, all the dumps, upper and lower, open at the same time!

SureLock II Mechanical Weight Release System (patented) – provides a safe, single-pull release. Inserting weight is as simple as insert and “click”. With SureLock, your weights are secure in the BC. Once engaged, the only way to release the weight is to pull on the handle

The GripLock™ Tank Band is a strong, secure way to attach the cylinder to the BC. Gone are the days of complicated web weaving through multi-slot buckles. Predetermined détente settings make set-up simple. No adjustments are necessary when switching cylinders of the same diameter. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about pinching your fingers with GripLock’s innovative finger saver feature (pat. pend.)

The pull down oral inflator is easy to deploy, use and stow.
A bladder retraction system is used to pull in the sides of the bladder during deflation. This keeps unit streamlined and reduces drag.

An adjustable chest strap can be raised or lowered on a rail system. This not only ensures a good fit but also keeps strap from running across top of a drysuit valve.

A scooped octo-pocket on the top, front of the right lobe makes it easy to stow and deploy an octopus. The octopus remains visible and accessible throughout the dive.

Some divers may find it useful to run their instruments behind the left pocket and out the scooped opening on the top, front of the lobe.

Pocket within a pocket – A small security pocket is found on the flap of a larger drop-down pocket
Knife attachment points are found on the left lobe which will accommodate many of the Aqua Lung knives. This location provides easy access to the knife.

Features 5 stainless steel D-rings and 2 plastic D-rings for all of your accessories.
Right shoulder pull dump provides an additional dumping option.
Rolled neck collar for comfort

Available for shipment to U.S. zip codes only
