I love the ease of use underwater. As it is digital it gives exact readings on air consumption, etc. The digital compass is amazing as it delivers spot on readings. I am more than happy to recommend this to everyone.

Rating: Great Computer!
Reviewer: Bill B.
I purchased this a few months back when Suunto was throwing in the transmitter for free. Its a great computer, especially for the price I paid. This is my first AI computer and its a very nice feature. Everything was easy to setup and customize for my diving needs. The transmitter is a tight fit on my SP MK17 but it does fit, barely. User replaceable battery is nice (I got the low batt indicator when I received the unit, but was easily replaced). The compass is nice feature as well, most of the time I need a compass its to simply "head north", so the interface should not be an issue, maybe even easier than an analog compass since I can tilt it. A nice large display that I can see all the information I need, and with the push of a button. I was a little worried about the signal being lost from the transmitter being my first AI computer, but that has not been an issue. After more testing, I may remove my analog SPG. Overall a nice computer.

Questions and Answers for Suunto Vyper Air (Nitrox) Hoseless Wrist Computer with Digital Compass:

  • Deborah:

Purchased this computer and transmitter from you one or 1 1/2 yrs ago. It will not pair. Opened it up and discovered salt water got into it. We have replaced the battery. Is it under warranty and/ or can we rinse in fresh water, dry it, and try new battery?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

For technical level information such as this its always a good idea to contact the technical staff at the manufacturers themselves. Usually (but not always) once salt water has penetrated a dive computer its pretty much done for. Unless a manufacturing defect is found, its normally not going to be covered under warranty. Their warranty info can be found at: http://www.suunto.com/en-US/Support/

  • john:

Hello - does this model come with a cable to attached to a PC to download dive data? Or, is that a separate purchase? Thank you!

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello John, it comes with the software to use on your computer. So you can download your dive profile onto your computer. The computer does hold 42 hrs worth of dive profile.

  • Deborah:

How reliable is the wireless air integration on the Vyper 2 vs the non wireless air integration on the Cobra 3. Also, can another (backup) pressure gauge be connected in addition to the Cobra 3?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Deborah, i have not heard anything about losing sync with your computer. As for a back-up analog gauge as long has you have a second HP port on your 1st stage you would be able to have a back-up gauge.

  • Vagner:

This offer of Suunto Vyper Air comes with the PC data cable for downloading the data or does the cable need to be bought in separated?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes this should include the USB cable.

  • Deborah:

I have heard some negative comments about Suuntos response to problems. How is it handled when I purchase through you? Do we send products to you or Suunto directly?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Deborah, you can send it to us or the manufacture directly. With computers unless it is a battery change if there is a issue with them we have to send it back to the manufacture.

  • Vagner:

Sorry to insist, but you answered "should". i want to know for sure if the price advertised includes or not the PC data cable. it is very important because this seems to be an old model, or at least no on the Suunto product line, and i am afraid not not find the cable after the purchase. Could you please answer if the advertised product - Vyper air with Transmitter - also includes the Download Data Cable?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes it does come with the USB cable. This product is listed in Aqualung's current catalog and is coming from them so it will be the current model.

  • Paul:

If you use the suunto vyper air without the pressure transmitter ,doe it screw up any other functions of the computer ?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No, you just do not have any of the air integrated functions; ie, tank pressure and time to dive based on air usage.

  • Tony:

    Is this computer Mac compatible?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

    No. PC compatible only.

  • Hank:

I am looking for my first dive computer that has a transmitter. Is this an entry level dive computer and user friendly?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This will be a good computer.

  • Dana:

what is a great bargain for a wrist dive computer under $500. I dive 2xs a year and want to use it for a watch when not diving.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Good morning, like anything electronic, the smaller it is the higher the price. Check out the Aeris Manta. This is a great "bang for your buck" and could be used as a watch.

  • Larry:

The depth function on my Suunto Vytec dive computer, purchased in 2006, has failed. Out of warranty, unfortunately. Apparently, the Suunto Vyper is the newer version. My question: Will the newer Suunto Vyper work with the same transmitter that was compatible with the Suunto Vytec? Thanks for a timely response.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunately we do not know. There have been changes in the transmitters over the years but even Suunto's site doesn't state. The best bet for technical information such as this would be to contact the manufacturer directly

  • Brandon:

I have a Suunto console. Will I be able to place this inside my console. Sorry if this sounds like a silly question. Very Respectfully, Brandon

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

You will have to contact the manufacturer to check on compatibility. http://www.aqualung.com/us/content/view/204/310/

  • Evy:

How is it compared to Oceanic V4T? Can this watch also reads my daughters air? Does the transmitter stay in the BC pocket? I have an oceanic console computer and was thinking of getting a backup.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, these are very similar computers. The main difference is that the oceanic allows you to chose the type of dive table to use(aggressive or conservative). The suunto is set as a conservative dive table Which would be what you would want your daughter diving on. The transmitter stays on you 1st stage and the computer can be mounted wherever you want.

  • Adrienne:

What are the main differences between the vyper and the D4i? Do these computers always include the transmitter or is that a limited time offer? Do you ship to Canada? Thanks for answering!

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Adrienne, the display is the major difference in the 2 computers. The Vyper is a larger display 2.5". Where the D4i is a wrist watch style (day-to-day) watch.

  • Nahn:

Can the watch-band be replace if its broken? Thanks,

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Nahn, the watch band and holder is one unit. You would have to get a whole new wrist mount if the wrist straps are torn.
