Nice deal with the free transmitter. I have now had 6 dives on this computer with no issues. The Oceanlog software is a bit tricky to use though, suggest visiting the website and looking at the FAQ section on this. Very happy with this purchase

Very easy to use online free training. I lost the signal very briefly on one dive put the unit closer to transmitor and everything was fine . it hasnt happened again.I spoke to a tech support person whon repairs these and clearly told me when you need a new battery you must change the o ring at that time. I love the automatic count down feature when you reach your safety stop. I am 54 and have trouble reading close up but I can read the unit fine

The VT4 was everything it is claimed to be, but I have only used it for a week. Plenty of options but well organized and customizable so that you get your screens easily when underwater. Main quibble so far is that the compass calibration is not as quick as I would have thought.

Rating: Oceanic VT4 Dive Computer
Reviewer: Regina W.  -  View all my reviews
Love the product! I am a new diver and it worked flawless on my first dive without my instructor. Thank you Oceanic for making a solid product and making me more at ease on my first out of the class dive! Best of all it is a cinch to program and the large backlit screen is easy to read. I read some reviews about having issues with the transmitter I did not experience this at all with my dive. However, once I uploaded my dive log to my computer it showed me that it had loss signal at 55 feet. However, this was only for a brief few seconds and it picked the signal right back up. I like that I didn’t even have to re-sync the transmitter.

I have not had much time to test this computer out due to the weather. I do like all of the features except that I wish I could read the other transducers on the surface.

I had the VT 3, but I love the new VT 4 more. The menu function makes it easy to change settings and program your screens. It is so user friendly and I have had no problems with it.

The VT4 is a great dive computer. It is easy to use and works great. I dive with my 2 sons that are 12 & 13 so I like that I can monitor their tanks as well as mine.

  • Jason:

Is this interoperable with the Aeris Elite T3, ie can they monitor each others transmitter/air level?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

No. The VT4.1 loses the ability to monitor more than one transmitter. It can be mated up with an Aeris transmitter as it's primary transmitter, though.

  • Nico:

Can the owner replace the batteries without problems? Is the free shipping also free for posting to The Netherlands? regards Nico

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It has user replaceable batteries. It's actually a fairly easy process. As for the shipping, you'll have to check the site to see if it's marked for Free International Shipping. The normal free shipping program is for the continental US only.

  • Lucily:

If I purchase it without the transmitter, is that something I can easily acquire later if I decide I want it?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Lucily, yes you can. If you go to Oceanic Atom/VT Dive Transmitter Only web link: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-67/008043/Oceanic-Atom-VT-Dive-Transmitter-Only.html. Can you recommend a dive watch computer with compass that downloads to a Mac? Im looking in the $400-$800 range. It must be easy to use and read. Ive only been diving for two years, with 15 dives logged, all in the Florida Keys. Im diving in Zanzibar this summer!

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Laura, in that price range the computer I would suggest for you is the Mares Nemo Matrix Air / Nitrox Wrist Computer Dive Watch web link: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-17/009384/Mares-Nemo-Matrix-Air---Nitrox-Wrist-Computer-Dive-Watch.html. Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Louay, the VT 4.1 has not been released yet. Once it is we will carry this computer. The difference between the two at this time is the VT 4.1 will not do buddy checks. If you would like to pre-order it or have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Eugenio:

whie taking the online class i noticed that when entering the dive preview on my vt4 menu, pressing it apears gas mix as nor, below fo2-1 air and just below it should say depth al. (it appears as [ epth almar) it doesnt complete de d is that a failure on the computer that i should consider to send it back to exchange in order to prevent any other problems of displaying info correctly or not to be able to see later more information that could cause an accident ? or that is just the way it is everything else looks like its ok and working.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Eugenio, if you need to get your computer serviced you will need to send that computer back directly to the manufacture. If you go to: http://www.scuba.com/resources/repair/oceanic.asp that will take you to all the information on shipping your computer to the manufacture. If you have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Maxwell:

I lost my previous Oceanic Atom (version 1 maybe?) but I still have the transmitter. Can I buy this computer and use it with my existing transmitter?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Maxwell, yes you can. you would just need to enter the serial number of the transmitter into the computer and you will be all set. If you would like to place an order or have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Nicholas:

Hi Scuba The web page shows and says buy this and it shows the computer and a transmitter and then it show get this free showing picture of another second transmitter. Is that the offer buy the computer and trans for 729 and get another trans for free? Thats what your ad shows and says.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

You're misreading the intent. The current special from Oceanic (it's a manufacturer driven special) is buy the computer w/transmitter package and get the transmitter for free. Not an additional transmitter. The wrist unit alone is and has been $729.95. The transmitter when not on special is an additional $419 when not on special.

  • Ron:

What are the differences between the VT4.1 and the OC-1 besides the case?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Ron, the OC1 is a wrist watch that you also can wear as a day to day watch. Where as the VT4.1 is a larger display 2.5" diameter that you would not wear as a day to day watch.

  • James:

I have an older oceanic dive computer (10 years old), will the VT4 fit into my old console if I do not purchase the transmitter at this time? Thank you

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This is a wrist unit and does fit into a console. You might want to contact the manufacturer directly. http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/us/contact-us/

  • Nick:

Does this computer work with more than one transmitter at a time? Can I monitor both my sons as well as my own tank with this computer? Nick

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Nick, it would do up to 3 different transmitters. You would just need to program in the other serial numbers of the transmitters.

  • Felipe:

Hi, how often do you have to change the batteries on the transmitter? I am diving an island in the pacific and will be on a boat for 10 days. I was debating on going with the traditional analog gauges and traditional watch in case of transmitter or battery failure. Any suggestions? Thanks, -F

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Felipe, I have a unit like this made by Oceanic (Atom version). I have to change the watch battery about every year (depends on how much diving I get in) The transmitter battery I change every 1.5-2 years.

  • katchen:

does this come with the transmitters or do we need to purchase those separately.

Arthur  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello, unfortunately this doesn't come with a transmitter but one can be added to it. We are offering some suunto computers where the transmitter comes with it free.

  • James:

When I put the Oceanic VT4.1 in the shopping cart it shows a price of over $1000, but on the item page it is $712 and is supposed to come with a free transmitter - how do I get this price.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello James, the transmitter is a UPGRADE: UPGRADES: with Transmitter Add $350.00 The 749.95 price is just for the wrist unit.

  • Jeff:

    Is the software Mac compatible?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

    No.

  • Russell:

Are there appreciable differences in the VT 4.1 vice the VT 4.0 ?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The VT 4.1 does not have the ability to monitor more than one air source. This was removed due some copy write and patent issues.

  • Steve:

How do you turn on the backlight?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

It needs to be pressurized to approximately 3ft of seawater and then pushing the buttons will activate the back lighting.
