Rating: Okay for the money
Reviewer: Michael Ewer, Saturday, June 21, 2008 - View all my reviews
Used this reel on a recent weeks wreck diving trip to send up my DSMB. It is quite compact but cheaply made. The line is quite thin and showed signs of wear at the end of the week. I had to trim the base of the reels winder knob as it did not rotate freely when its securing bolt was tightened and consequently when you wound the reel the knob securing bolt unscrewed itself. All that said the reel survived the week ( 9 dives) and never let me down. In hindsight I would buy the reel with the longer line.

Rating: MUST HAVE REEL
Reviewer: Valerie Simonson, Tuesday, May 08, 2007 - View all my reviews
THIS MAX REEL IS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT, IT HAS A REEL STOP ON IT AND A HANDLE TO WIND UP, SO IT IS REALLY HELPFUL AND YOU DONT STRESS OUT ON IF YOUR LINE IS CAUGHT ON ANYTHING! WE HAVE IT ATTACHED TO OUR DIVE MARKER FLAG AND AFTER USING SOME OF THE OTHER LINES THAT YOU HAVE TO SELF WIND WE WILL NOT GO BACK! WE HAVE BOUGHT A FEW AND HAVE ONE IN THE DIVE BAG ALL THE TIME AND ONE ON OUR PERSONAL BOAT! IT HAS MADE OUR DIVES EASIER AND WE CAN PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE SITE THAN WORRIED ABOUT THE LINE.

Rating: Reel with click-stop mechanics

this is by far the best tool ive used to maintain control of a dive buoy. that said, tethered "wrap around" reels will work fine if youre just ping down to a location and are going to tie the buoy to a stationary object. spend the extra cash on this reel if youre going to be towing a dive ball or buoy behind you. it has a comfortable handle and the placement of the drag release click stop mechanism is perfect for thumb control. christopher-madison, wi

Rating: Great reel
Reviewer: David Patton, Tuesday, June 05, 2007 - View all my reviews
This is NOT a great reel for beginners that feel the need for a thick line. It IS a great reel for its small size, the thin but strong line for those a little more comfortable going into overhead environments. I did have to add a stainless steel clip though to clip it on to my BC without interfering or entangling. A very good reel for a good price.

I bought this to use with my dive flag, it was the best thing i ever bought! easy to use, clips to dive flag. Easy to let line out, easy to bring line in,no more fighting with old fashion ropes that get tangled around you or in your gear!Leaves more time for you to enjoy your dive! If I where you I would buy it you will be glad you did!

Rating: Best Reel on the planet!
Reviewer: Regina Tironi, Friday, July 13, 2007 - View all my reviews
Finger Spools? Forget it! More expensive spools made of metal? Dump them! THis is AWESOME! THe way this is designed you will not find your line getting loose from you! and the handle makes it easy to hold on to even with 5mm gloves on. Best purchase!

Rating: MAX REEL REAL DEAL
Reviewer: vincent moore, Thursday, April 12, 2007 - View all my reviews
Just used this reel in florida dive trip. Worked great on the wreck and found the anchor line in very low vis condition. Has nice latch so no free wheeling line is heavy so didnt have to worry about being cut on entrance of wreck.

This light weight reel with a one hand release for the ratchet works great as a basic tether and has easy line-out tool. Definitely worth when doing the more challenging sites.

Thus far the max weel has performed as expected. No problems or issues. The drag maintains good tension and the "dog" is a good feature to keep the line from free spooling.

Rating: Great wheel.

This wheel has an excellent design. Especially if you dive in cold water with Three finger gloves. Tobo make it better, an aluminium body would be a must.

Very nice for the dive flag. I have used it a few times now and found out that it works best under 30. Anything under that you get hung up in the rope.

It is a little heavier and bulkier than I was hoping but the handle and reel make it easy to use.
