Questions and Answers for Air Line Model R360xl Hookah:

  • Lorraine:

Hello, I was wondering if you need any kind of certification to do snuba charters.

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

It seems there would be any number of different things you'd need to look into, such as Coast Guard permits and Liability Insurance. As for use of the surface supplied air, a scuba certification should always be required as the user is still subject to all the conditions and limitations of scuba.

How much noice does this engine produce? what has beeen done to protect the air from beeing poluted by the engine exhaust? any risk of breathing in exhaust from the engine?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

The units are about the same as any mower type engine with a muffler installed. The air inlet tube is located at a point that is higher and away from the exhaust. This allows the heavier exhaust gasses to be directed down and away from the inlet allowing only the lighter, clean air to be pulled into the compressor.

  • Matt:

How is the on the regulator lever (dive/pre dive) positioned?

    Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

Hello Matt, the diver adj. air flow is a switch that you can divert the air flow. So if you do diving where a wave or doing a boat entry sometimes the hit on the water will make you r regulator free flow. This switch will divert that pressure so you will not have that happen again. Also it does not matter which way the switch is turned it will give you air if you breath into the regulator. If you have any other questions or would like to place an order please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Nate:

What happens when it runs out of gas? Do I just die?

    Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at

That would depend upon how prepared you are underwater. Divers are taught to go underwater with some sort of a back up or safety plan in the event of an out of air emergency. Spare Air, Pony Bottles or some sort of back up air supply are highly recommended. Also, all divers are taught the ESA in their entry level or Open Water dive classes.

Exactly the same as R260XL, but as a three diver package.
Because of the exceptional performance of the XL compressor, it is extremely well qualified to support the third, and even, fourth diver at respectable recreational depths. It is shown as a separate entity to eliminate confusion in determining requirements for depth and number of participants.

What you've read above about Model R260XL also applies here. Worth repeating is the uniqueness of this large, single-head compressor: the full marinization inside and out; the vented cover; the six inch cooling fan; the ability to rinse out internally with no disassembly; that it can be serviced by you---in the field.

Compressor: Thomas/Air Line, LARGE, single-head, direct-drive, oil-free, Wobble piston.
Performance: 12.5 CFM @ 0 PSI, 9.8 @ 50. Two at 85', three at 60, four at 40.
Air Rating: Grade-E Compressed Gas Association of America.
Full-time operating speed, compressor and motor: 3,400 RPM.
Motor: Honda, 4 hp, 4 cycle.
Operating time: 3 hours. (Watch your decomp. time) on 2.5 qts. of gas.
Size in Polypropylene Case: 19.5 x 25 x 17 inches high.
Inflated Float Size: 38 inches. (Stable up to four foot seas. Use also as deck-mount in pan.)

The photo of the compressor, with cover off shows the large cooling fan that keeps the bearings properly cooled. The photo below shows how easy it is to do an internal rinse to remove salt deposits without the need for any disassembly.
