Rating: Great mask, tricky fit
Reviewer: Ben
Used this for this first time off Fujierah, UAE. Found it tricky to get a comfortable adjustment on the straps and was constantly pulling down to keep it from slipping off my chin. Once I found a good fit, (tighter on the lower straps than the upper) I did not have to fiddle with it. Visibility was just wonderful and I wasnt afraid to laugh at silly things with my dive partner (using a traditional 2nd stage). Looking forward to more dives with this mask!

Rating: Very comfortable
Reviewer: Tom Adams
I got this mask due to jaw fatigue and a desire to breath through the nose and, I am happy with the results. It fits on my face well and is easy to put on and take off both out of the water and in the water. My diving is so much more enjoyable now. Nice not to have to worry about fogging either - no spit required to have clear lenses. I did not get the surface air valve and will be ordering it soon as on a boat dive it could save some air even though I did not notice a real change in the consumption. My bottom time was about the same - probably because my breathing is more relaxed and comfortable. Bottom line - great mask for those who have discomfort holding a regulator in your mouth.

Rating: Mantis Full Face Mask
Reviewer: Dennis Jameson
Bought this mask for the safety of the 5 strap. I gold dredge in swift moving rivers and the cheaper 3 strap full face masks leak water and are easily swept off your face. The Mantis performed flawlessly in extremely fast water.

I have spent a fortune on conventional masks in an effort to stop flooding. This is the only mask that has achieved it. Absolutely brilliant, I can now enjoy every dive.

Rating: Mantis Full Face Scuba Dive Mask Clear
Reviewer: JOHN M.
what a wonderful product. i have dentures and worry about losing my regulator, not any more. the installation of my regulator was easy, less than ten minutes. it took just a little time to learn that i could breath through my nose. im very comfortable in the water but the security afforded by the mask and the breathing through my nose has added another level. this comfort is really important on a deep or complex dive. the mask is comfortable to wear, and seals well even though i have a beard. i mostly dive from a boat, and do not use a snorkel, i use very little air on a a shore dive getting out to the spot, so no problem there for me. for the price and quality i would recommend this to any diver. a very good product.

Rating: Mantis Mask
Reviewer: Nathan Blakeslee
I love that it comes from a name-brand manufacturer (OTS). Great product for the cost without heavy maintenance. I purchased to dive and clean boats with- donning is quick and easy. I also have little fear about straps breaking down because of the snap buckles- Encourage other to also purchase the clear masks so you can watch for possible mold issues or contaminates. Spend the extra money for this mask.

The clear color is the smartest allowing only a little perifrial loss.It fits just fine for a slightly smaller face. The price is more down to earth than the higher priced models with as many extras. Rob Popp

Questions and Answers for Ocean Technology Mantis Full Face Mask:

  • Scott:

Could you advise if the Mantis full face mask will be compatible with the "Brownies Third Lung™ Explorer 390, I am looking at purchasing this unit and these masks would be get for the young fellas. regards Scott

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Scott, yes you can use this with the 3rd lung. All you need to do it zip tie the regulator to the mask like you a mouthpiece. If you would like to place an order or have any other questions please feel free to give us a call at 1.800.347.2822.

  • Sharon:

Is it possible for a snorkel to fit on a full scuba mask so you wouldnt have to have anything In your mouth?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes a snorkel can be used in place of a regulator.

  • Sharon:

Thx to Bill for answering my question that a snorkel can fit on a scuba mask in place of the regulator. Ill only use it for swimming laps. (My snorkel mouth piece has begun to hurt my gums.) My next question : What is the least expensive scuba mask and snorkle you can recommend?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

For more detailed information on products, pricing and availability, please contact our instructors at 800-34SCUBA (347-2822) or by email at info@scuba.com

  • phillip:

i have a handicaped child that is 15, we bought one full face mask and the top does not seal real well on his forehead. a childs fave is more oval then an adults. will this mask seal better for a youth or childs face?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

This mask is high quality silicone and seems to fit just about everyone. As long as the item is not used in the water you have up to 60 days to refund or exchange it.

  • Bryce:

are the lenses on this mask available for prescription?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Bryce, no these only come in standard lens there is no optical quality option with this mask.

  • Dan:

Is it possible to use this with a SpareAir, and swap them as needed during a dive? I feel somewhat "naked" without an alternate, totally independent air source.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Dan, yes you could use it that way but would not suggest it. If you would want to run that set up you would need to hold either the regulator or the spare air in place since you normally would have the regulator attached to that spot by a zip tie. Now if you dove with a spare mask as a back-up that the spare air system if you ever had that happen you would be able to ditch the mask grap the spare air than put your back-up mask on.

  • George:

Hi, can anyone advise me if its possible to connect a second breathing regulator (Octopus) to the Mantis full face mask. Also is it possible to connect any regulator this mask.

Aaron  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hi George, The Mantis can fit most current regulator. No you can connect an octo to this mask.

  • Richard:

Do you have to used a zip tie with the 2nd stage where the mouth piece usually goes?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Richard, yes it would be the same type of attachment that you would use to attach your mouthpiece to your 2nd stage regulator. Look at it like the mask is now your mouthpiece.

  • Michael:

Is the Mantis buddy phone compatible with the D2 buddy phone? I.e. can 2 divers communicate if 1 has the D2 and the other has the mantis buddy phone? Thanks. Mike.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Yes. The Buddy Phone unit itself will be the same.

  • Jon:

Is there a regulator out there that directs bubbles WELL away from my gopro mounted on my diving mask? Im fine against current or while swimming but when stationary the bubbles just really mess up my vids when they surface directly in front of the GP lens. I have a mask that has a GoPro mount just above my eyes on my forhead.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Unfortunately even a regulator with the wider exhaust T still directs bubbles up in front of the face when stationary and sitting vertically. They are all designed with the thought that a diver would be swimming horizontally for the majority of their dive.

  • Samantha:

Can a regulator with a mouthpiece work in this or would I still need to put the mouthpiece in my mouth?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Samantha, this Full Face Mask (FFM) is the mouthpiece. You would remove the mouthpiece and then connect the regulator to the mask. With a FFM you wouldn''t need the mouthpiece with this mask.

The Mantis full-face mask is an ideal solution for the recreational diver who wants to truly experience all that diving has to offer. Combining the Mantis with our latest generation Buddy Phone®; and Super Mic creates a incomparable combination of price and performance for any recreational dive profile.

Our latest generation Buddy Phone features a new design with an innovative squelch to help eliminate unwanted bubble and marine-biological noise. The squelch gives increased intelligibility without sacrificing power.

When diving with the Mantis FFM and Buddy Phone, you will be able to communicate with all Single Sideband acoustic underwater devices within range and on the same frequency. This includes other Buddy Phone® divers, divers using the Aquacom® SSB-2001/2010 diver unit, and surface units such as the SP-100D2.

The Super Mic is 100% floodable to any depth and has all the benefits of an acoustically balanced, noise-canceling microphone. It packs a lot of power into a compact design to help maintain the Mantis' low-volume design.

The Mantis mask comes in either black or clear silicone. An optional surface breathing valve is available to allow you to conserve your breathing gas supply by breathing ambient air while on the surface.
