Rating: Great Signal Device for the Price
Reviewer: Jennifer W., Sunday, December 20, 2009
I bought this for a recent 6 day diving trip. Its ligthweight and quiet until you need to alert your buddy to something. It floats and takes up no space for travelling. I would highly recommend this product. For the price - it is a good buy.

Hey, for the price, it does what it is supposed to do. Its not super loud but seems to work as well as some of the other product my dive buddies use. I cant use a tack banger due to shoulder troubles, this suits me fine. Good price here, saw it at some dive resorts and of course it was triple the price.

Rating: Works great!

I bought this for our recent trip to Grand Cayman because I also have trouble getting my husbands attention under water. It worked great. He could hear it really well from at least 10 away for sure. He wants one now. Also, it floats. I had it attached to a lanyard around my neck and it would float up to the top of the water while snorkeling. I got the bright yellow one so it was nice. I attach a small mask defogger to the same lanyard and the signaling device helped it to float.

Rating: A MUST HAVE!

My wife and I were on a dive in Grand Cayman when we heard this rattle from another diver. Great sound that travels well without being too obtrusive and much more distinctive than banging on an aluminum 80L. Very conveniant, fits right in the BC pocket. I tie mine to the zipper-pull so I dont have to worry about losing it. I bought one on the island (at twice the price!) and this one was for my wife because she loves how well mine works.

Rating: So ease to signal my partner
Reviewer: James S., Thursday, July 10, 2008 - View all my reviews
I used to get frustrated diving with my wife. She and I could never get each others attention. Now with a few shakes we know exactly what the other wants. Plus she now doesnt dive right above me anymore.

Rating: Not noisy enough

These are great if you are trying to signal someone fairly close in proximity to you but on a recent trip to Cozumel, I could not get our dive guides attention to signal that we were going up. He was no more than 25 feet away. But like I said, if you want to signal your dive buddy, who should be fairly close to you anyway, than it will serve its purpose.

Rating: Its OK...
Reviewer: Ken N., Monday, August 27, 2007 - View all my reviews
I bought this for my son when he was doing his first diving with me over this summer. I wanted him to be able to get my attention. I found that if he was more than a few feet from me it was easy not to notice the sound. Because it was clipped to his BC it was tossed around enough that when he was nearby I would hear it as it rattled around. Once you get used to it you can tell the difference between rattling around on your buddys BC and someone deliberately shaking it to attract your attention.

What a great little product small, light weight and effective. I just came back from a scuba trip and saw several people with the large aluminum rattles. I received several question on where I got mine. Of course I told them SCUBA.com Thanks

i researched all sorts of manner of similar devices and then ed this one to take to roatan on a trip with my son. it has a distinctive sound underwater and was invaluable in getting his attention. other types of devices driven by air are much too obnoxious in a group setting but could be useful when diving only with one other buddy. this device was "just right" and did what it advertised. hint: also bring along an erasable slate (the etch-a-sketch type) as once you get the attention of your dive buddy, you wont have to resort to sign language to get your message across.

Rating: For the hard of hearing
Reviewer: Joseph P. Mullen, Monday, January 15, 2007
My dive buddy and I really enjoy sharing the beautiful things we see under water, but I dont seem to be able to hear the sound of her tapping on her tank. A dive master on a trip to Roatan used the Aqua Maraca to get our attention and I heard it every time. If signalling to your partner has been a problem for you and your partners then the Aqua Maraca might be just the thing to try.
