Rating: Good quality suit
Reviewer: Cole Farris  -  View all my reviews
Nice suit, but not the easiest to get on/off by yourself (but may be easier than others). Got more water in the suit that I had bargained for, which made it not much warmer than my previous cold water suit (7/5 with a 3mm hooded vest). However ,this was most likely my fault, as you really need gloves with a single wrist flap to make it seal. I already had Scubapro 5mm gloves which have a double flap, and there were simply so many layers it was hard to get a good seal. Overall quality of the suit was excellent. Henderson makes good uits.

Rating: Warm and Comfortable
Reviewer: Diane C.
Great suit! Kept me warm in 52 degree Northern California waters without additional layers. Needed assistance getting on/off but super comfortable. Prefer over my 7mm with hooded vest. Great deal (demo). Highly recommend.

Rating: Stay Warm
Reviewer: William Hanson  -  View all my reviews
As the waters in southern California have gotten colder since 1975, I am not sure, but this suit is now my only suit for diving from Oregon to the southern most Channel Islands off San Diego. Keep the front zipper lubricated with dry suit zipper lube. Easy to put on and off. 2 additional pounds of weight from my 7mm suit which I probably dont need.

Rating: Very comfortable and warm
Reviewer: Barry S.  -  View all my reviews
Hello - Im new to scuba here in the Northeast. Needed a minimum of 7mm suit plus wanted to have easy entry/exit so I would not need anyones help with the zipper. This suit looks and feels great - very comfortable, true to size chart, extremely warm and easy to get on or off by yourself. Yes - of course water gets into a semi dry wetsuit - but because of the neck, wrist and ankle seals - you really dont get much flushing of new water so you feel very warm and comfortable. While taking my open water cert dives in 53 degree water a few weeks ago - the instructors were freezing in their 7mm wet suits but I was nice and comfy. The 10 year warranty is great for peace of mind on getting the full life from this suit.

Rating: Best Purchase for Cold Water Dives!!!!
Reviewer: Jeff Hemsath  -  View all my reviews
There are better suits, and this one is it!!! Semi Dry is an under statement. Lake Michigan, 45ft, 53 degrees, NO PROBLEM. Its thick, durable and the rubber around the neck, head, feet and hands works very well. You do have limited mobility (as with any suit). Only my hands were cold. Buy the Semi dry gloves. I used regular boots with fins and feet did not get cold. You can enter the suit alone but your buddys help makes it easier, even with front zip. This Suit is best Ive ever worn. Ill never have to rent again.

The suit is excellent, warm and flexible. I forgot how unencoumbering a wetsuit can be compared to a dry suit. Fit is superb, and delivery was lon time.

Questions and Answers for Henderson 8/7mm Thermoprene Front Zip Semi Dry Wetsuit with Attached Hood:

  • craig:

I am 65" ,280 lbs, will a 3xl work or should I get a custom? 7mm good for northern California approx 50 degree water?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The most important measurements any time you purchase a wetsuit using the manufacturer's sizing charts will always be your waist and chest/bust measurements. The suit needs to fit your torso correctly in order to do its job properly. Keep in mind there is no such thing as a comfortable wetsuit on the surface. You want it to be snug, but not cut off circulation to your extremities. The more snug it is, the thinner the layer of water your body is heating. If its too loose you will remain warm for awhile, but eventually your body won't be able to keep up with the greater amount of water flowing through the suit and you'll wind up getting cold faster. After that your height is a secondary measurement. The manufacturers realize that generally speaking your boots and gloves can overlap slightly short arms and legs, or the diver can push or roll up longer sleeves and/or arms if need be. Weight is a measurement the diver can usually ignore. It really has little to no bearing what so ever on the sizing and fit of your suit. The manufacturers do not take into account muscle being more dense than fat, so based simply on fitness levels 2 people can be the exact same size but quite different in weight. This measurement should only be used if the person is literally on the fence between 2 sizes in all categories.

  • Hector:

I had this item in my cart yesterday and it was priced at 282 dollars, I went to check out and it changed to 457. I would like to get it if its still 282 since I dont need the backpack that is now included. Can I get some clarification on the price?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Hector, we show the current price on this suit at $456.99.

  • Kurt:

Want to buy a new suit, the size chart I dont exactly fit into, do you do custom suits? 5 10", 225, inseam 31, waist 40, chest 48

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

We do not do custom. The waist and chest are the most important measurements for the fit with a wetsuit. Height usually will work even if it is one to two inches short or tall. Weight will depend on the divers body build and is the last measurement to consider.

  • lungu:

Whi you show 2 different prices for this item http://www.scuba.com/shop/AskAnExpert.asp?sku=153245 ?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

For current stock, pricing or availability contact info@scuba.com or 800-347-2822

  • LARRY:

How much weight will it take to neutralize buoyance of the suit in 2XL

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Larry, I would suggest 6 lbs. But each diver is different so it could be different.

  • Evy:

Is this suit better than the Henderson aqua lock 7mm wet suit because it is semi dry wet suit? Is the hood easy to put on when it is attached to the suit? I would think the detachable aqua lock hood would be easier and warmer than the attached?

Bill  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Semi Dry suits tend to be warmer, but the Aqua lock will be the most comfortable.

  • Rob:

I fall between a LG and XL so Im not sure what one is right for me. I currently dive in a 7mm XL ONeil but the sizing charts are different. I have a 42-44 chest but my waist in pants in 32. Any suggestions? Weight 180 Height 511.

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

I would go with the Large sized suit.

  • Bryan:

Im moving to Seattle in September & I know the water gets pretty cold up there.. I cant afford a dry suit & was wondering which semi-dry would be best and will it keep me warm in those waters

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

I originally learned to dive in Puget Sound (a ''year or two" ago). The typical 7mm suit with hood or in this case semi-dry suit is perfect for those water temperatures.

  • Ariu:

How does the henderson 7/5 compare with the scubapro 7/5 in terms of flex? I like the front zipper but am hesitant with going with an attached hood since Ive had problems with hoods that were too tight in the neck thus a gag reflex. Of the Scubapro and Henderson is there a difference in the fit around the neck?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

The suits are very comparable when it comes to flexibility. They use similar styles of super-stretch neoprene. The neck fits similar in both suits.

  • Drew:

Which gloves are best for use with this suit? I was looking at 7mm Henderson Aqualock but wasnt sure if that would work well with the wrist cuffs of this suit.

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Drew, yes the Aqua Lock glove would work very well with the way this suit is designed. The suit is designed the same as the cuffs on the Aqua Lock suit. So the gloves would mate to this suit.

  • Ariu:

Im between the large and X-large ( 190 pounds, 44 regular sportcoat, 33-34 waist, 5ft 9 in. Which way should I go? If the suit doesnt fit is the cost to return on me or does Scuba.com comp me in some way?

Bob  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

If you purchase an item and we ship what was requested correctly, the customer would pay any return shipping. • gabriel:

I have a trip to Galapagos in march. The average water temperature is 70 to 74 F Some times reach low 80s F. Or high 60s. In case the water reach low 80s F this wetsuit its ok? Or its going to be really hot?

Darrick  (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com):

Hello Gabriel, unless you are going to be in 45-60 degree water this suit would be hot in. I would suggest looking at the 5mm suit for the temp you are going to be in. Here is the link to the 5mm suits: http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-42/Wet-Suits-Temperate-Water-60-75-degrees.html
