I was very comfortable and in fact a touch warm in Southern CA this winter. Living in Northern CA Im sure I will be happy to have this thicker suit. This suit stretches a bunch and is conmfortable for the most part. Being a front zip there is a little bunching in the shoulder areas but not an excessive amount.

Questions and Answers for XCEL 8/7/6/5mm Polar Hydroflex Wetsuit with Attached Hood:

  • Ian:

What is the material like and what are the seams like on this wetsuit? I have an Excel suit I bought used that ripped while I was trying to get it on. After I sewed and glued it, it ripped again in a different place. I had an ONeill suit that I used/abused for 2 years, put 500 hours on it, without any issues. The ONeill suit has a fabric on the front and back, while the Xcel I had only has a fabric on the front... Be as detailed as you can. I like the attached hood of this suit and the Henderson, but for durability, I cant argue the Oneill suit...

The Henderson will be the most durable.

POLAR HYDROFLEX HOODED 8/7/6

Coldwater, meet your match. The Polar HydroFlex features our Polar Protection System, designed for ease of entry without sacrificing warmth. UltraStretch neoprene hood, sleeves, and side panels, with our heat-retaining ThermoBamboo lining in the inner chest and hood.

ENTRY SYSTEM

POLAR PROTECTION SYSTEM
Horizontal front zipper extends across the entire upper body for extra-easy on/off. An inner neck dam is glued & blindstitched to the body for an added layer of comfort and protection.

ANKLE ZIPPERS WITH INNER GLIDESKIN DAMS
Easy on/off ankle zipper system includes inner dams lined with GlideSkin for comfort and warmth. Using GlideSkin allows ease of entry (''gliding'' over your skin) and forms a good seal once in place.

MATERIALS

THERMOBAMBOO

Inner neoprene lining with performance and environmental benefits. A blend of bamboo charcoal fibers and recycled polyester fibers provides excellent heat retention and helps improve warmth.

ULTRASTRETCH NEOPRENE

Comfortable, lightweight neoprene with softer foam and a tighter weave textile for less water absorption and better durability.

CONSTRUCTION

GLUED & BLINDSTITCHED SEAMS

A fully sealed, maximum stretch seam construction that keeps water out. Neoprene panels are glued and pressed together, then blindstitched (needle doesn't fully penetrate neoprene, keeping water out). Can be finished with seam taping for added stretch, durability, and comfort.

GLIDESKIN WRIST SEALS

''Rolled'' GlideSkin hems keep wrists in place and water out.

FIT

DURAFLEX KNEE PANELS

Contoured, durable panels that stretch with you.

TEMPERATURE

46 to 60 degrees fahrenheit, or 8 to 16 degrees celsius (For use as a guide only. Many factors beside water temperature can influence how warm or cold you feel in the water (air temperature, session length, level of activity, etc.) Your individual prefrences come first when choosing your wetsuit, gear, and accessories.
