Top quality dive bag with subtle improvements over the Akona bag I bought 10 years ago. I could have used my old one longer but the airlines and I were really hard on it. This bag is spacious, strong and luggage quality.

ON my first couple of trips its been a good bag. Accommodates everything I have to bring plus some. Seems to be durable. Only wish it had a side handle but other than that its a perfect bag for dive equipment. It is heavy and get it into a rental car is quite a lift. I travel a lot so I get free bags otherwise it would be expensive to take on a plane. I am glad I bought it.

Just returned from my first dive trip with this bag. Not a short trip... Chicago to Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur to Tawau (Borneo) to Sipidan and back! The back fully accommodated my fins, BCD, 2 wetsuits, and misc gear PLUS all my clothes, etc. if youre a serious traveling diver, this is the bag to own.

This is well constructed heavy duty Bag. Lots of room for all your gear and clothes. It is a little heavy, and zippers are a little stiff but it is a great value. Was able to get all my gear and clothes in and still meet the 50 pound weight limit. We took 2 of these and one carry on bag each and did Turks and Caicos for a week live aboard. It is a big bag. Added Plus ! it comes with nice regulator bag and computer sleeve free. I would purchase it again.

Rating: Akona Roller Backpack Bag is great
Reviewer: Dennis King  -  View all my reviews
I was surprised that this bag was of such high quality. I was able to but in all my gear with room for a weekends worth of clothes. I have not taken it on a trip yet so I can not say how it holds up in wet conditions but based on the rugged construction, I anticipate no problems. Thanks Akona for making an excellent product. I also purchased your tote bag and it is perfect for boat dives and also for going to my local gym as a gym bag.

Rating: More than I expected
Reviewer: Joshua Roberson
This bag is much more than I expected. It is solidly built and with the "plate" in the bottom I could put my tank in the bag also without an issue along with everything else (I dont have a wetsuit) needed for diving. This bag would be big enough for a long weekend of diving with all my gear and all my clothes if I took the tank out of it. Im curious how it will hold up to travel, soon to find out.

Rating: Best bag for the money!
Reviewer: Dawn Wheeler
We bought this bag right before our 2 week trip to Bonaire. We had some sort of cheap bag that we used for a quick trip to Catalina and that was disastrous! One of the wheels broke right away and we ended up dragging that damn bag for the rest of the weekend. This akona bag holds both of our equipment and gear no problem and has now been through the airport 4 times and still functions well. Money well spent!

Rating: Too big to be practical
Reviewer: David W.  -  View all my reviews
Very nice dive bag but too big. While it stores most of my and my wifes gear, its hard to go thru x-ray machines, onto dive boats or crusie boat tenders, thru any narrow corridors, etc. Stores both sets of basic gear, but no wet suits. Were going to return it for Akona indivdual dive bags with mesh compartments since this ones so well made with lots of nice features such as large wheels, stowage shoulder straps, etc.

Rating: This is the GREATEST dive bag ever.
Reviewer: William W.
I love the back pack feature, it allows me to carry my weight bag in one hand and a tank in the other. This means fewer trips back and forth between the car and the dive site. It is large enough to truly carry two sets of gear, so taking it on a dive boat with a pair of divers is practical. However, it might be a little to large as a boat bag for one diver. I can put my dive gear and my clothes in this bag to eliminate an extra bag when flying.

Rating: 5 star bag!!!
Reviewer: Donald Dew  -  View all my reviews
We took this bag on our recent trip to Fajardo, PR and then on a 7 day Southern Caribbean cruise. This bag held 2 sets of dive gear in it (with wetsuits)!!! OUTSTANDING QUALITY!!! The heavy duty zippers are such a plus, along with all the different compartments. It held up great with the airport handling, which lately destroys our personal luggage!! It also held up great with all the transfers from vans to taxis to cruise ships to hotels to dive boats etc. We were gone for 12 days and it was so nice to have all of our dive gear in one bag. We did stow our regs in our personal luggage for air travel because it went a little over the 50 lbs. However, when we arrived to our destination we were able to stow EVERYTHING in one bag for our dive excursions and to board the cruise ship. AWESOME BUY!!!! NO REGRETS!!!

Overall great bag with lots of room, the only 2 drawbacks are: it is a little heavy and with all the room easy to go overweight, and the security sleeve wears easily, already have a few holes in it after the first trip. I would still recommend this bag to anyone interested.

I bought this bag for my husband for his thirtieth birthday. Hes used it at least five times in the past month and he loves it. Some reviewers have said that the bag fits two sets of gear but when my husband fills it only with his, I dont see how a second set of gear would comfortably fit in. Didnt have any problems with the zippers nor with the wheels. Overall its a great product and my husband is very happy with it.

This is an awesome bag. I have already abused it somewhat and it stands up to it like a champ. The removable reg bag, the fin storage, and the roomy main storage are perfect for a cold water diver or two warm water divers. The security cover is great to keep my stufF MINE when going thru the airport (especially LAX).The rollers are the prime pick here... no more lugging heavy EQ around... roll it away and save your back.

Rating: Great bag, Lots of room for all my gear
Reviewer: Scott Michael  -  View all my reviews
Fin pockets, Large outside pockets, easy to move. Not exactly sure why they put a water bottle on the outside of the bag as I think Id rather have a bigger zippered pocket, but that just nit-picking. Room for my gear and my wifes wetsuit and snorkeling equipment. The fact that you can completely tuck the backpack straps away to prevent the baggage handlers from ripping them off is great. The bag is BIG and it is easy to go over the airlines weight limit if youre not a careful packer especially with cold weather gear. That not a fault of the the bag but of the the airlines. Still you need to be aware of the fact that you you may be hit with extra fees these days, especially with a big bag like this.

Reviewer: Jeff M.
I bought this bag to be used on a trip to Roatan, Honduras. It easily fit all of my (XL) and my wifes (S) gear (BCs, fins, masks, snorkels, computers, lights, slates). With all of that in, the weight was 48 pounds. The bag that comes with it to protect did protect it for this trip, but it got torn so it wont be much good for future trips. Having that bag around it also made it very difficult to maneuver, as the only handle that remains exposed is the one on top. The large wheels (which are exposed when the bag is on it) were great, and made it very easy to roll over carpet, along docks, and even on tightly packed sand. Highly recommend the bag - it withstood multiple plane rides and baggage handlers going to and from Honduras, and even a helicopter ride when we were evacuated due to hurricane Felix!

Rating: Akona Roller Backpack
Reviewer: Jody S.
i read all the reviews on scuba.com and in all the magazines i could find before making this purchase. they were all helpful. this bag has just about everything – lots of space – the pockets are spacious and well placed. i’m not sure why there is the bottle and pocket on the front – i agree we should all stay hydrated, but i think removing the bottle and enlarging the existing pocket is more practical. i went to key largo from ca for a week of diving – more than enough room for everything. one review i read said to watch out for all the space – in being tempted to fill it, you could be in serious jeopardy of exceeding airline weight limits – i found this to be true also. the wheels are my only area of concern, bordering on complaint – when the bag arrives brand new, the wheels roll so very smoothly. the first time the bag is ped carelessly by a taxi driver or baggage handler, however, things change dramatically. the wheels tweak in and rub against the housing, even rubbing away the plastic/rubber they are made of. it’s nearly impossible to get them straightened and we could find no way to access the wheels other than straight on from the outside. this means that all through the airports, train stations, hotels and dive boats, the wheels rubbed, the bag did not pull smoothly, and the edge of the wheel continues to be rubbed away. what a shame to not be able to use such a fabulous product after such a short time.

Good bag, but a bit heavy so weight is an issue when flying (only negative). Holds lots of items, I like having the fins on the outside to help protect the contents. Rolls easily, even over hard-packed sand. Shoulder straps came in handy when had to carry it over soft sand. I bought a second one for my wife, and recommended it to a friend as well.

This bag can truly fit 2 sets of COOL water gear... or all of your TECH gear. I dive a Zeagle Tech w a 65lb bladder, which is not the easiest to pack. This bag fits it, my wet or drysuit, 2 sets of fins, 4 masks, and a ton of clothes, and it does so easily. The wheels are bombproof, easily handling sandy/rocky airports & out of the way dive locations. Plus all the goodies? Its a GREAT buy.

i used this bag on a march 2007 trip to jamaica. i was able to pack the following: 2 sets of fins (1 set in the fin pockets and 1 set in the bottom of the main compartment), 2 bcs, 2 shorty wetsuits, 2 skins, 2 sets dive boots, 2 dive masks. one regulator and computer in the regulator bag included with this bag carried as hand luggage on the plane the other regulator was carried in a separate reg bag. the main bag was also carried aboard the dive boat on a couple of occasions to facilitate carrying all of the gear. it fit easily under the seat. it did have a tendancy to tip over when fully loaded. weight-wise, i expect that i was close to 50 poinds, but as the flight was a charter, weight was not closely watched. the included security sleeve is a bit hard to get on a fully loaded bag, and it is not easy to roll the bag sometimes with the sleeve in place as the sleeve could get caught in the wheels. i did not use the shoulder straps. i would give the bag 5 stars except for its tendancy to tip over when fully loaded.

This product isnt technically a backpack but it is a great gear bag. The description said you could fit two sets of gear but I was only able to put my gear (and a bit extra) for a trip to Cozumel. The many pockets make organization easy. The bag rolls nicely. It held up quite well while another bag ripped. Its probably a bit too big and bulky to take on a boat but works well for getting your gear on the plane. Id certainly recommend this bag.

We purchased the Roller BackPack for our daughter who was going to Okinawa, Japan for a 10-day December dive trip. Extra clothing and scuba gear needed to be packed to handle the cooler temperatures. I am happy to say everything fit into one bag. The additional compartments, padding, and heavy duty zippers kept her scuba gear safe and secure. The Roller BackPack also comes with a protective covering to keep it safe from the elements when on dive boats or at dive sites. The bag contains durable straps to allow it to be used as a backpack for those times when the bag cannot be rolled and needs to be carried.

This is the second time I am buying this bag because I have found it to be a sturdy, reliable performer. The bag is ample for all your gear when traveling and meets all requirements for flying. Everything has been thought out well and the bag is designed well. The only problem (and this is a big one) is that if exposed to salt water regularly, the wheel bearings and the handles screws will rust out. However, if you are using it to transport gear from home to hotel, it is a fantastic bag.

Rating: Backpak for large dive equipment
Reviewer: Eric Clark
This bag has room for a full set of dive equipment for the larger individual. Im 63" and this bag will hold my Seaquest Pro QD BC which doesnt pack very well as well as a full 3mm and a 2.5mm shorty along with a 6"x5"x3" dry box, wide assortment of lights, boots, gloves, and weights. I loaded this bag up with everything I had including 20 lbs. of weight and tried the sholder straps, all the weight was evnly distributed along the wide sholder straps and very little pressure was left on the small of the back most was right below the sholder blades. The wheels are awesome, these wheels arent like most bags. They are large enough where the only thing I can think of that would bind them up would be a good size piece or rock wedged in just right. The pull handle stores nicley with a concealed zipper pouch to keep it from snagging on everything while storing on a packed dive boat. A little awkward moving up and down boat ladders but is manageable. The requlator bag would probably be a little small for a full reg assembly with guage consol and octo would be a stretch to get in the supplied reg bag but possible. A reg assembly with a BC integrated Alternate and quick disconnect dive computer fit great. All in all great bag, lots of room, and seperate storage compartments for everything. Highly recomened!!!

Rating: Good product, but too large for me
Reviewer: Pamela Reynolds
For the price this roller backpack is a pretty good deal, but it wasnt exactly what I expected. First, its fairly big (carefully check out the dimensions before you buy!). Id hoped to use it when traveling on dive trips, and I still intend to, but its a bit too large to fit easily in the trunk of my car. On the other hand, I like the fact that it is large enough to not only hold my cold water gear, but also extra clothes and items for a weekend dive trip. I doubt Ill ever be able to wear it as a backpack as it is very large and heavy. The wheels are fairly good and do okay on mildly rough terrain (i.e., gravel and dirt). It seems well constructed and durable, but I have only taken it on a half dozen dive trips so far.

Great for traveling with lots of space, so much that I put my wifes gear in. Just need to be cautious with weight limit. The cover is great for protecting the backpack. Sometimes it does get stuck under the rollers if not aligned properly.

Rating: Great Piece of Dive Equipment
Reviewer: David Smith
This unit is one of the most important pieces of my dive equipment. I travel extensively and it has yet to let me down. It holds all of my equipment without any of it being crushed. I like the fact that my fins are inside the side pockets. Thant way I dont lose them like my dive partner did Buy it and enjoy it Dave Smith Pittsburgh, PA

This bag will definitely hold all your stuff. We used it for a trip to Fiji recently, bringing two sets of equipment, including shorties. My major complaint about the bag is that it doesnt stay upright when loaded. Instead, it falls forward. Not a problem if youre on the move and pulling it behind you, but a pain in the neck at check-in counters, etc.

This back has everything I need in an equipment bag for travel and more. Its durable and has space for two persons gear with room to spare. Zippers are built so as to accomodate travel padlocks. Telescoping handle works well. There are multiple handles and straps in different positions so you can grab the bag in different ways, which comes in handy when placing bag on airport shuttle racks or grabbing it in a hurry of a crowded baggage claim.

Back Pack zipper ripped on first use which covers extendable pull handle. Water bottle broke when backpack fell over. Needs more internal small pockets for small items flashlights, knifes, mask juice etc. Rolls well. no drains for water after putting in wet used gear?

Rating: Very durable bag
Reviewer: Daniel Stoeckle Instructor
This is a great bag. It is big enough to hold all of my cold water gear (including my drysuit) and it was big enough to hold 2 warm water set when I went to the tropics. Also since it has wheels it was a breeze getting it through the airport and onto the dive boats.

Much bigger that I thought it would be. About the size of a large suitcase. Holds an amazing amount of stuff. Rolls well. Heavy when full to lift on to a boat. Nice product overall.

This is a great bag - well constructed. Plenty of room inside and just enough pockets for everything from fins to the extra bag for your regulator & octo. Very good buy!

This bag flat works. All of our gear fit easily into the bag, and slid right under our seats on the boat. If you do not "forget" to zip it up, there is no need for a dry bag.

Very nice, well constructed bag. However, the information from the website indicated that two full sets of gear would fit in the bag, we were only able to fit one full set.

This is the best thing ever invented, its on wheels! Im a 54" female so lugging a mesh bag/backpack/shoulder bag would be hard on me. This bag is very easy to bring to places including the airport.
