About Me: I am a new diver and I am also a paraplegic. I am working on getting my advanced open water certification this year. I have a spinal cord injury at T7-T8 which I got in 1998, when I was 17 years old, in a car accident caused by a drunk driver who hit me. I am now paralyzed from my mid-ribcage down and rely on a wheelchair. I love the freedom that scuba diving gives me as well as the tranquility I feel when I am underwater. I am always looking for ways to feel free of my chair and diving, to me, is the perfect way to do that.I am very active, and fiercely independent, and wish to spread to the message that life does end with spinal cord injury and that disability does not mean that you are helpless! I have an adaptive extreme sports blog at mimimachine.blogspot.com and hope to turn my dive experiences as a paralyzed person into a documentary to inspire other people with disabilities to dive.
Favorite Dive Gear
My Cressi webbed hand gloves are an essential piece of gear for me as they improve my underwater swimming efficiency since I can´t use fins. I also love my Sherwood Luna BCD which isperfect for us girls who are smaller in stature and use Sherwood´s Blizzard regulator.
Favorite Dive Locations
I am hoping to dive the Florida Keys, Bonaire, shark dives in Mexico, the Galapagos, and eventually do some polar dives!
Hi, if you like to dive around the world I am inviting you to see the first city in the continent of America, Santa Marta, at the foot of the tallest mountain in the tropic and a fortress build against the pirate´s attacks in Cartagena and dive along these two sites in the Colombian Caribbean, to do some spearfishing, photo, underwater video, wreck diving, etc., let me know the dates of your stay here to set you up and show you around, thanks

Hello Mimimachine, something you could check into is an underwater scooter. That would let you get around underwater with ease. If you have any other questions just give one of our scuba instructor a call at 1.800.347.2822. Your Scuba.Com Team
