It all began with two gentlemen more then 100 years ago. In 1896, W.H. Lawrence manufactured the first consumer battery to power home telephones. The battery weighed three pounds! Two years later, a Russian immigrant, Conrad Hubert was using these batteries to power his novelty item, an electric hand torch, aka the first flashlight.
