Raymond Poudrier and Otto Wagner have a vision: to produce the definitive collection of high quality, user friendly dive maps of the most popular wrecks and underwater sites in the world accurate, waterproof and all in a standard format to fit logbooks and BCD pockets.
As co-owners of Montreal-based Art to Media, a computer graphics specialty firm, they knew a thing or two about the magic of creating images full of depth and height and width, which leap off the page or screen for the viewer.
“3D animation is our business. When we examined the market it became clear that we could make these maps more of a ‘must have’ item than just another ‘nice to have’ gadget.” And it’s safety, that gives the product this essential quality. The record shows most accidents result from anxiety that leads to panic. “Knowing where you are and where you’re going makes wreck diving fun – or fearful if you don’t. These maps make the difference. We started back in 2004, and launched the first set at the 2007 DEMA show.
The company also makes larger poster size reproductions of some of the most popular wrecks for use in charter boat and scuba shop dive briefings. With these larger maps, divers get an accurate picture of the dive to come and can, if they choose, plot the same course on their own pocket-sized map with a marker.
A new product line in the works for consumers is a collection of DVD animations of the wrecks mapped to date. Each will be about 30 seconds in duration and will cover an entire ship. Also available are some new interactive APP for IPHONE & IPAD .
