Underwater Navigation Course

Wouldn't it be great to be able to eliminate long surface swims at the end of a dive?

The course is designed to reduce confusion and anxiety and increase effectiveness of planning a dive. Underwater navigation is a particularly useful skill when participating in specialized diving activities: Limited Visibility, Night diving, Wreck diving, Deep diving and Search & Recovery. Being able to navigate better will also help avoid buddy separation and help conserve air.

Course Goals:

  • Develop practical knowledge of underwater navigation.
  • Increase diving skills.
  • Enable divers to plan, organize and make dives using underwater navigation skills.
  • Improve diving ability and provide additional supervised experience.

    Course Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be an Open Water Diver or equivalent.
  • Provide all personal diving equipment.

    Course Outline:
The course involves one evening in the classroom at DIVERS DISCOUNT SUPPLY, followed a few days later by four open water dives over two days. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive your Underwater Navigator specialty certification card.

In addition to full ocean scuba equipment and two tanks -- all of which may be rented from Scuba.com Store Locations-- you will need a depth gauge, dive compass and bottom timer or dive watch.

The above course description is general in term. There will be variations on the course depending on certification agency.
