September 18 – September 27 2011 Fort Young, Fort Young, OTHER, Dominica

Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-eek-a) sits just a few miles
from Martinique to the south and Guadeloupe to the north.
The tropical rain forest covers 2/3 of the island.
Nestled at the edge of a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, cradled in the beauty of Dominicas
mountainous landscape, is the Fort Young Hotel, Dominicas premier hotel. In 1720, a rough,
wooden fort was built by the French on the same site that the Fort Young Hotel sits on today. In 1761,
British forces overran this fort when they captured the island and nine years later major construction
began on Fort Young, named after the islands first British governor. These are the same walls that
are now part of the hotel. Old-world charm, modern amenities, and open vistas of the Caribbean Sea,
marry harmoniously in this historic building.
Dining in Dominica can be as much about the ambience as it is about the cuisine. Many restaurants
offer spectacular sceneries and captivating panoramas of the islands unmatched natural beauty
along with the unique aroma of blended herbs and spices, and each guard their own culinary secret.
The diving is the best from 40-70 ft with an abundance of beautiful soft coral. The dive sites will
amaze even the most experienced divers: dramatic walls and pinnacles, pristine reefs, and amazing
creatures are some of the main attractions.
Dominica is the only country in the world where the Sperm Whale reside all year long, although
sightings are most common between November and March. Whale watching is a must. You will
probably even see pods of Dolphins. If you enjoy hiking through the rain forest: waterfalls, rainbows
and birds are plentiful.
