Attention all scuba enthusiasts and photography lovers! Scuba.com is excited to announce the launch of our newest course: Introduction to Underwater Photography. This three-session course, taught by certified divemaster and wildlife photographer Jay Diaz of La Jolla Lens Photography, will provide you with the knowledge and skills to capture stunning photos and videos underwater.

Meet Your Instructor

Jay Diaz is a world-renowned photographer, having worked with white sharks at Isla de Guadalupe and as a wild animal keeper and harbor seal trainer at the NY Aquarium. His work has been published in the World Conservation Society’s “Wild View” blog, and he has been photographing marine wildlife since 2017. Introduction to Underwater Photography: Course Breakdown

The course will be broken down into three sessions, each lasting two hours, held on three consecutive Wednesdays starting at 5 pm – 7 pm at our NYC store location at 50 W 17th St. No prior photography experience or equipment is required to enroll in this course. Upon registration, students will receive top-notch instruction from Jay Diaz and premium access to different underwater photography setups.

The course begins with “Choosing Your Camera Rig,” where you will learn about the different camera setups available, and which one would work best for you. On the second day, “How to Build Your Setup,” you will learn how to assemble and set up your camera rig. The final session, “How to Use It Underwater,” will teach you how to take stunning photos and videos while diving.

Do you need to be certified to take the underwater photography course?

We encourage all students to be Scuba certified, and if you’re not certified yet, we offer Scuba certification courses that you can take with us. Scuba.com offers in-store purchases with discounts for all students, so you can get the gear you need to start your underwater photography journey.
