Why You Need a Memory Card for Your Digital Camera Instructional Video Review

The memory card is an important item for just about all digital camera users. Many underwater digital cameras come with a small amount of memory built into them that is meant to be an emergency back up. It is generally just enough for a very small handful of digital still shots, but not nearly enough to allow the user to store anything significant and never enough to allow for any video recording.

The memory card allows the user to shoot and store a great deal of images. Often, at an average setting on your camera the user can store upwards of 750 – 1000 still images per gigabyte on the card. This also allows the user to store the images until such time as they are ready to make prints or download them into their computers or other viewing media.

The memory card for your camera is quite possibly one of the most important items you can purchase.

Different Types of Scuba Dive Computers & Diving Consoles

This instructional video is an overview for the different types of scuba Dive Computers including Console Dive Computers, Wrist, Hose Mount, or Module style Computers

Dive computers offer the diver a safer and much more convenient way of monitoring decompression limits. A dive computer can also calculate the body’s nitrogen according to the scuba diver´s depth and time, allowing for a diving profile that is much more flexible than the square profiles provided by the conventional dive tables. Today´s scuba diving computers display current depth, maximum depth, dive time, and records the diver’s information throughout the dive. Owning a dive computer can eliminate the need to have a pressure gauge and depth gauge which will allow you to streamline your gear.

Nitrox dive computers allow the diver to use standard air or Enriched Air Nitrox. Hoseless or wrist dive computers can be mounted in a console, on the wrist, on a hose or even on a retractor.

Differences Between Split Fins and Paddle Fins

This instructional scuba video describes the two major types of fins available. There is the paddle fin and the split fin. The paddle fin uses more effort from your leg to push the water. It’s similar to a boat paddle, whereas the split fin is similar to how a propeller from a boat works. The water goes through the blade and creates vortices that push you along. Ultimately the split fin reduces the amount of energy you use, and it saves your air because you’re using less energy resulting in a longer scuba diving or snorkeling adventure.

Differences Between Titanium Knives and Stainless Steel Knives Instructional Video Review

Differences Between Titanium Knives and Stainless Steel Knives Instructional Video Review

There are several differences between Stainless Steel and Titanium dive knives. The first and most obvious being that one is made from some grade of stainless steel and the other is made of titanium.

Stainless steel knives get their name from the low grade of the material they are made from. The stainless steel helps prevent corrosion but unfortunately to make the knife strong an amount of carbon is added to the alloy.

Titanium dive knives won’t rust like their steel counterparts, and in general, hold an edge much better. They are much lighter in weight but equally as strong and for this reason alone, they are often one of the more attractive choices for a diver.

There are several important features to either knife that the diver should look for. On the blade, it is very important for the knife to have a serrated edge. Another important feature is a line cutter. Finally a handy feature is a tank banger on the butt end of the knife. It can assist with signaling of a dive buddy and works as a great attention getter during a dive.

Differences Between LED and Halogen Scuba Diving Lights

Differences Between LED and Halogen Scuba Diving Lights

This instructional video explains the difference between the two major types of dive lights. They are the Halogen, also known as Xenon, and LED (Light Emitting Diode). The Halogen has a single glass bulb just like any other light we are used to seeing and the LED light has a diode with no glass involved. The significant difference between the two is that the LED is much more durable and the light is a different spectrum. It is more of a white light unlike the halogen that has a yellow light to it. The LED also has a longer burning time than the Halogen bulb. The major advantage to an LED light is the amount of battery life you get. If you change your batteries three times with LED light you will end up changing your batteries nine times with halogen lights. Although the LED is about three times as much, in the long run you will save more money on batteries and bulbs.

Regular diving masks are easier to put on and take off. They are easier to clear water out if flooded. Easier to view out of a regular mask and easier to maintain. Standard diving masks are available in different frames, colors and Sizes.

Differences Between High Pressure Scuba Tanks and Low Pressure Scuba Tanks Instructional Video

This instructional video demonstrates the differences between high pressure scuba tanks and low pressure scuba tanks.Scuba Diving Tanks or Cylinders allow the diver to have his / her own source of air. Scuba Tanks are a cylinder container made from steel or aluminum. Scuba Tanks hold different amounts of air so It’s vital to select the right volume Scuba Tank as different sizes are made for different purposes. The difference between an aluminum tank and a steel tank are that a steel tank ´besides the price´ is that it may rust internally over time. Whereas, an aluminum tank will not. Although an Aluminum tank may seem the way to go, it is not always the case. For example, an aluminum tank thread’s have had a tendency to strip out or have cracked in once in a while than a steel tank. And most aluminum tanks have a positive buoyancy. In general most Scuba Divers start with the a basic AL80 Tank because of the price difference. There are several SCUBA cylinder manufacturers, and the specifications for their cylinder pressures, dimensions, and capacities are constantly changing.

Aluminum tanks are cheaper and come in more sizes to choose from. Aluminum scuba diving tanks are the most common diving tanks in the world. Preventive Care and Maintenance for your SCUBA Cylinders Instructional Video

The scuba cylinder is quite possibly the easiest piece of your equipment to maintain and with proper care and very little effort it should last much longer than the average diver’s time participating in the sport.

Every scuba cylinder needs to be visually inspected annually by a qualified visual inspection technician who will drain the cylinder, remove the valve and inspect the tank internally for corrosion, foreign materials and cracking. As a diver the things you can do to care and maintain your cylinder are quite simple. First of all, like with any piece of gear, be sure to rinse it off after each use. Next, always store your tank laying down when not in use. The final tip is easily the most important one and can quite possibly make all the difference in the longevity of your cylinder. Never, ever for any reason drain all the air from your cylinder. Keeping as little as a couple hundred psi of air in your tank will prevent condensation from forming inside.

Following these simple tips will help ensure that your scuba cylinder lasts for as long as you are involved in diving!

Differences Between a Wetsuit and a Drysuit Video Review

When you go into the water wearing a wet suit, the wet suit allows a thin layer of water between the person’s body and the wet suit. The body then heats the water and this allows the heat to be retained and keeps you warm. Styles will range from: Full body suits, referred to as a JUMP SUIT or a 1 Piece Wet suit, Two part suits, top and bottoms Shorties which are short arms and legs for warmer water. The thicker the wet suit, the better it retains the heat, and the harder it is to move.

A dry suit is just what it says it is. This suit actually keeps you dry underneath the suit while you are in cold water. This is a close fitting double layered suit that keeps a warm layer of air between you and the suit. It has waterproof seals around the neck, wrists, and face. This keeps you very dry and warm. Air is introduced into the suit via a front power inflator and the suit has a shoulder dump/over pressure relief valve to let air out.

How a Scuba Diving Wetsuit Works Instructional Video

Wetsuits are made for a wide variety of uses including Snorkeling, Water Skiing, Surfing, Jet Skiing and of course SCUBA Diving.

Most suits are completely interchangeable between sports – the 3mm Shorty that you use Scuba Diving today in Hawaii can be used next weekend back home water-skiing.

Wetsuits are made of neoprene, a porous material containing literally millions of tiny bubbles.

A wetsuit must fit snugly if it is to be an effective at keeping you warm. We have a chart on our site: View Wetsuit Fit for more info.

If in doubt, always buy a wetsuit slightly warmer than your needs. If your wetsuit is keeping you too warm you can always let water in to cool you down by slightly unzipping the suit. But if you are cold during a dive there is not much you can do except stop diving.
